ILOILO CITY, March 26 (PNA)-– A total of 22 city public schools will receive this week a donation package consisting of 44 analog closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras and data video recording (DVR) from the benevolent Chua family of this city to be installed in their respective schools.

City councilor Nielex Tupas said the donation of the units was coursed through his office to pursue the ICT-CCTV project he is endorsing for the schools and the Division of City Schools selected the first 22 batch of beneficiary schools.

A memorandum of agreement will be inked soon between the City Division of Schools, the school recipients and the city government for the awarding and turnover of the CCTV units.

The school division has 65 elementary and high schools and the city government and Tupas will be looking for other donors to complete the CCTV system in all schools in the city.

Tupas said the public schools are not included in the list of mandatory facilities to be installed with CCTV cameras for security purposes under a regulation ordinance.

Only those high risk businesses such as banks, money changers, pawn shops, jewelry stores, money carriers, private schools, transport terminals and gasoline stations are covered in the ordinance.

Engr. Dyjee Gallega of the National Telecommunication Commission (NTC) explained that CCTV cameras are used mainly as surveillance system and crime deterrent, protection of the school properties, promote safe and caring environment, monitoring and curbing of truancy and monitoring of pupil’s punctuality, record and surveillance of school property against vandalism, among others.

The city councilor said the initial batch of recipient schools are the seven district schools, 13 secondary schools and the city’s Iloilo City Community College (ICCC) and Technical Institute of Iloilo City (TIIC).

Each school will receive two CCTV cameras that will be installed at the entrance and exit area and at the point of customer transaction that includes the administrative office or the principal’s office.

The recipient district elementary schools are the Baluarte ES in the district of Molo, Jaro I ES in Jaro, Arevalo ES in Arevalo, Mandurriao ES in Mandurriao district, La Paz ES in La Paz, Iloilo Central ES in the city proper and A. Montes I ES in City district 1.

The high school recipients are Jalandoni Memorial NHS, Melchor L. Nava NHS, Bo. Obrero NHS, La Paz NHS, Iloilo City NHS, Ramon Avanceña NHS, Jaro NHS, Mandurriao NHS, TC-TAR Foundation and Integrated School, Fort San Pedro NHS, Buntatala NHS, SPED-ISEC and the RG Hechanova NHS.

ICCC and TIIC are also recipients as being the only city-owned schools offering collegiate and vocational technical courses.(PNA)
