ILOILO CITY, Mar. 31 (PNA)– After gracing the highly successful first Iloilo Bike Festival last Sunday, March 30, 2014 in this city, Senate President Franklin M. Drilon and city mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog are one in saying the bicycle lanes must be extended to cover more mileage and not just concentrate in this city.

Drilon said a 14-kilometer stretch from the municipality of Dumangas up to the Metropolis in Arevalo district and another 11 kilometer stretch from the diversion road up to the Iloilo airport will be considered as bicycle lanes for the Ilonggos to enjoy.

The fun run bike festival last Sunday was participated in by more than 1,000 bicycle riders in Iloilo and Guimaras to roll down along the 20 kilometer stretch of city streets to share a road movement on biking.

The bikers stop at local tourist attractions in the city as well as promote a major sports tourism activity that pushes for healthy lifestyle, protect the environment with pollution-free means of transportation and highlights the attractions in the local tourism circuits as biking route.

The Iloilo City tour leg started at the Megaworld area in Mandurriao, then moved over to Jaro Plaza, La Paz Plaza, Plaza Libertad, Fort San Pedro, Muelle Loney, Calle Real, Arroyo Fountain, Gen. Luna, Molo Plaza, Arevalo Plaza, Carpenter’s Bridge, Iloilo River Esplanade, diversion road and back to starting point. (PNA)
