ILOILO CITY, March 26 (PNA) — Ilonggo bike enthusiasts aim to materialize their dream of having a special bike lane all throughout the six districts of this city as the city government will be hosting the very first Bike Festival on Sunday.

Bike Festival director Ronald Sebastian said the event aims to promote healthy lifestyle as well as environment protection and local tourism.

He added through the event, the city government might consider their request to have a special bike lane in each district so that bikers will have also their road sharing.

“We want also a special lane for our bikers because this is very economical way to save money instead of using car which contributed a big factor to our air pollution,” he said.

Ilonggo Senate President Franklin Drilon and Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog will lead the event which will be participated in by almost 1,500 bike enthusiasts coming from different areas in Iloilo, neighboring provinces and other regions particularly from General Santos City and Metro Manila.

The bike fun run covers a total of 25 kilometers around the city that will start and end at the Megaworld business park in Mandurriao District here.

Last Monday, a bike exhibit was opened at the Robinson’s Place to show more that 50 bicycles including mountain bikes, triathlon bikes, folding bikes, vintage bikes and other sports bicycles mostly used by Ilonggos. (PNA)
