ILOILO CITY, Mar 27 (PNA)–Iloilo Police Provincial Office Dir. Cornelio Salinas has lauded the local government unit of Bingawan headed by its Mayor Matt Palabrica to have his town be declared as a drug-free municipality.

Salinas said that the town of Bingawan in the third district was the first to be declared in the province with Maasin local government unit having already signified its desire.

”Maasin wants to also be declared drug-free,”Salinas contended.

He said that with the growing interest of other local government units and barangays in the province they are coming up with parameters for the anti-drug abuse council to use in the declaration.

Salinas, however, said that what he has in mind is for the declaration to be made right in the once drug affected barangay that will be turned into drug free.

He also called for leadership and genuine commitment of the local leaders in the drive against illegal drugs. With their commitment, the province of Iloilo would eventually become a drug-free province. “The vision may be too high but it could be realized,” Salinas contended.(PNA)
